A Celebration of Community and Faith at Worship in the City
On a vibrant Sunday morning, approximately 2,900 individuals gathered at the Southeast Event Centre in Steinbach to partake in 'Worship in the City.' This event, part of the cherished annual festival Summer in the City, not only celebrates the rich culture of Southeastern Manitoba but also exemplifies unity among local faith communities.
A New Venue for an Expanding Gathering
This year's worship service marked a significant shift, as it was held indoors for the first time. Organizers made this decision to accommodate a growing number of worshippers and to eliminate the unpredictability of weather-related disruptions. The collaboration of 14 local churches showcased a remarkable spirit of cooperation, emphasizing how community can thrive through shared beliefs and common goals.
Inspiring Messages of Transformation
The theme of this year’s event was 'New life in Christ,' underscoring the transformative power of faith. Prominent local speaker Udylz Upeshova shared her poignant journey from Kazakhstan to Steinbach, reflecting on the joy she found in learning about Christ amid challenges of living in a predominant Muslim culture. Her story of seeking spiritual truth amid adversity resonated deeply with attendees, as she framed her journey as discovering a treasure that changed her life.
Powerful Testimonies of Hope
Another highlight of the morning was the keynote address delivered by CHVN Content Director Mike Thom. Thom recounted his personal struggles with addiction and trauma, sharing the pivotal moment he encountered faith amidst despair. His message recounting the turning point in his life, where he called out for God’s presence during a moment of vulnerability, served as a powerful reminder of hope and redemption. “Jesus didn’t just rescue me from something that day, He invited me into something,” Thom reflected, emphasizing the call to live as ambassadors of reconciliation in the community.
Encouraging a Mission of Reconciliation
As the worship service concluded, Thom challenged participants to embrace their roles as representatives of God’s mission, promoting reconciliation and understanding within the community. His vision of seeing the image of God in everyone around them reinforced the importance of compassion and acceptance, serving as a fresh call to action for those present. In a world often marked by division, events like Worship in the City offer a glimpse of the transformative power of faith and community bonding, inspiring all to contribute to a more unified and caring society.
