Hidden Help, based in Scorrier, Cornwall, has been busy collecting, repairing, and recycling donations to support families transitioning into new homes.

Since its establishment as a registered charity in 2021 by founder Judy Backus, Hidden Help has significantly impacted local families facing various challenges. In the previous year alone, the organization assisted 821 families, with a current monthly referral rate of approximately 60. Notably, around 40% of these referrals come from individuals experiencing homelessness, while 11% are survivors of domestic violence.

The Rewarding Work of the Volunteers

Volunteers like Adrian "Wally" Sanders play a crucial role in delivering support directly to those in need. After 16 months of service, Wally expressed the fulfillment that comes from helping individuals gain access to essentials for their homes. He noted that, while navigating certain areas can be challenging, the gratitude from clients makes the effort worthwhile. "At the end of the day, it makes you feel very good," he remarked.

One anonymous client shared a poignant experience of rebuilding his life after losing everything in a fire. Upon moving into a temporary rental flat, he found himself with an empty space and no essentials. Hidden Help came to his rescue, providing everything he needed to make his new place feel like home. He expressed immense gratitude for the practical support, highlighting how small items, like a spatula or a saucepan, made a significant difference in his everyday life.
