In an inspiring showcase of gratitude, Moeshfieka Botha and her husband, Nazeem Davids, recently turned a challenging health journey into a moment of appreciation for their caregivers. After a series of heart health emergencies that took them in and out of Groote Schuur Hospital, Nazeem is now in a much better place, thanks to the dedication of the hospital's cardiac team.

Overcoming Adversity

Moeshfieka reflects on the difficult times they faced, stating that at certain moments it truly felt as though the odds were against them. Fortunately, the skilled cardiac specialists at Groote Schuur Hospital played a crucial role in turning things around for Nazeem. “It was touch and go a few times, but by the mercy of the Almighty, and the amazing GSH team – Alhamdulillah. He is all good right now,” she shared.

A Gesture of Appreciation

Feeling revived and healthier than ever, Nazeem paid a visit to his cardiac team to express their profound thanks. He went above and beyond by creating 40 meticulously prepared gift packs intended for everyone involved in his care, from nurses and radiologists to clerks and cleaners. “While thanks and praise are always given to the heart surgeons and their surgical team (rightfully so) – those supporting the team and the patient, at every level, rarely get any recognition,” Moeshfieka explained.

Making an Impact

This act of kindness did not go unnoticed. The warmth and appreciation shown in their gesture resonated within the hospital, particularly given that many patients do not have the opportunity to return and express their gratitude. “The Cardiac/Cardiac ICU at Groote Schuur Hospital is world-class – and we are forever grateful to everyone there for their phenomenal work, their work ethic, their commitment and their kindness,” Moeshfieka stated.
