A Promising Boost for Rural Entrepreneurs in Central Oregon!

In an encouraging development for rural communities in Central Oregon, the Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) has received a $50,000 grant from Meta. This funding is set to launch the "Crook & Jefferson Innovate" initiative, which is aimed at strengthening entrepreneurship in Crook and Jefferson counties.

Empowering Local Entrepreneurs

The "Crook & Jefferson Innovate" project is designed to expand economic opportunities for approximately 51,000 residents in the region. By conducting a comprehensive assessment of the local entrepreneurial landscape, the initiative seeks to identify emerging entrepreneurs and evaluate existing barriers related to digital access and business support.

Building Stronger Pathways for Growth

This important initiative represents a significant step toward fostering a more supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region. Kelsey Haskett, the Prineville and Crook County director for EDCO, emphasized the necessity for infrastructure to support local business ownership. She stated, "This grant from Meta allows us to better understand where entrepreneurs are and what resources they need so we can build stronger pathways for business growth and job creation in our region."

Addressing Unique Challenges

Rural areas often face unique challenges, such as limited broadband infrastructure and fragmented support services. The project aims to tackle these issues directly, particularly for historically underrepresented founders who frequently experience additional barriers in the business environment. The initiative promises to explore and highlight crucial gaps in the regional entrepreneurial infrastructure.

A Collaborative Approach

EDCO plans to engage local entrepreneurs and business partners through advisory committees that will validate findings and guide outreach efforts. The results of the initiative will culminate in actionable county reports with recommendations aimed at strengthening the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem.

With this level of support and commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of local entrepreneurs, the future looks bright for those aiming to lead in Central Oregon's business landscape.
