Aldi stores in Wiltshire have made a significant impact this summer by donating an impressive 30,500 meals to various charitable organizations. This initiative is part of Aldi’s ongoing commitment to address food waste and provide support to local communities in need.

The meals were distributed to food banks, charities, and community organizations during the school summer holidays. Luke Emery, the national sustainability director at Aldi UK, emphasized the importance of putting surplus food to good use. He stated, "There’s no reason for good food to go to waste when it can be put to use by organisations supporting their local communities."

Year-Round Support for Local Charities

Aldi has been collaborating with Neighbourly since 2019, ensuring regular redistribution of surplus food from their stores to various charitable entities across the UK. This summer, the donations boosted Aldi's total meal redistribution count in 2026 from over 8.8 million to 10.9 million, reflecting a remarkable 24 percent increase.

Meeting Growing Demand During Holidays

As pointed out by Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, the summer months often see a rise in demand for food assistance. Families grappling with increased food costs and children missing school meal programs face additional challenges. The regular surplus food donations provide a practical solution for charities to keep their shelves stocked and adequately serve their communities.
