The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, in collaboration with Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, has successfully completed an ambitious project that is transforming urban transportation in South India. The newly developed road-cum-rail double-decker structure is a remarkable feat of engineering that not only optimizes urban space but also significantly improves commuter efficiency.
An Innovative Engineering Marvel
This unique structure allows for smooth vehicle movement on one level while a metro line operates above it, setting a precedent for future urban transport solutions. Despite the challenges posed by heavy traffic, construction was carried out predominantly during night hours, showcasing the dedication of the engineers and workers involved in this monumental undertaking.
Impact on Commuters
The structure comprises five interconnected flyovers, commonly referred to by their letters A through E, stretching a total of 3.2 km. Among these, Flyover D stands out at an impressive height of 28 metres, resembling a nine-storey building, as it traverses various layers of infrastructure, including existing flyovers and metro lines. With the operational status of all five flyovers, commuters can now save up to 30 minutes on their daily travel, marking a significant improvement in the overall commuting experience.
