Birmingham City Council’s Adult Social Care Rated ‘Good’ – A Milestone Achievement

In a commendable turn of events, Birmingham City Council's adult social care services have received a 'good' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This achievement places Birmingham among only five local authorities to be inspected twice under the new CQC assessment framework and consistently earning a 'good' rating both times.

Recognition of Hard Work

Stuart Lackenby, the Executive Director of Adult Social Care and Health, expressed pride in this recognition while acknowledging the ongoing need for improvement. “We are incredibly proud...however, we recognize that we still have work to do to improve our services,” he stated. This admission, coupled with a commitment to enhance the quality of support provided, reflects a forward-looking approach amidst challenges.

Positive Community Impact

The CQC assessment highlighted various services offered by Birmingham, such as dementia and brain health activities, falls prevention efforts, and creative arts programs, all contributing to positive outcomes for residents. This recognition serves to validate the countless hours of dedication put forth by staff members who work tirelessly to support some of the most vulnerable individuals in the city.

A Call for Continuous Improvement

While the report is overwhelmingly positive, it also pointed out areas in need of further development, including improving transitions between services and ensuring a safer environment for users. Councillor Harris Khaliq praised the staff’s hard work and emphasized the importance of investing in people and listening to community needs to deliver real results. “Birmingham is a place where talented people can come, make a difference, and be part of a service that is improving every day,” he said.

This rating not only emphasizes the strength of Birmingham’s adult social care services but also sets a foundation for continued enhancement aimed at providing the community with the support it truly deserves.
