Bishop’s Stortford Shines as a Beacon of Safety and Community Spirit
Bishop’s Stortford has been awarded the prestigious Purple Flag at a recent ceremony in Norwich, marking it as a standout safe and vibrant destination for night-time economy within Hertfordshire. This accolade not only enhances the town’s appeal but also showcases the collaborative efforts of various local organizations and authorities.
A Collaborative Triumph
The Purple Flag is part of an international program by the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) that acknowledges cities and towns that successfully manage their evening and night-time environments. Bishop’s Stortford is set apart as the only location in Hertfordshire to receive this honor, out of only 70 across the UK.
Celebrating Community Efforts
The Bishop’s Stortford Business Improvement District (BID), along with critical support from local businesses and councils, led the charge in achieving this accreditation. According to joint BID manager Karen Burton, the award is a reflection of the extraordinary teamwork among the various stakeholders dedicated to enhancing the night-time safety and vibrancy of the town. “We were humbled to be among such an inspiring group of people and are thrilled that all the hard work is starting to pay off,” Burton expressed after the ceremony.
Looking Ahead
This recognition is not just a one-time achievement; it signifies a commitment to continuous improvement and safety. Plans for future developments include the introduction of Street Stewards, improvements to lighting, and additional safety training for local businesses. As joint BID manager Madeleine Lees noted, “Together we can achieve so much more,” indicating a strong belief in the power of partnership in community development.
The ongoing dedication to providing a safe and enjoyable night-time experience will ensure that Bishop’s Stortford remains a vibrant destination for both residents and visitors alike. The town’s efforts are undoubtedly commendable and serve as an example of how commitment and partnership can lead to significant improvements in community well-being.
