Brockenhurst College Shines with an Electrifying Performance of The Great British Bake Off Musical
This week, Brockenhurst College showcased the talents of its students by staging The Great British Bake Off Musical at the Kemball Theatre. The event, described as "an electrifying, feelgood event," brought together a diverse group of actors, dancers, singers, musicians, designers, and technicians, all contributing to a captivating performance.
A Collaborative Effort
The musical was performed over four nights, involving a cast of 26 students in lead roles and a 20-strong ensemble. A dedicated crew of 22 students from the foundation production arts courses worked tirelessly backstage, all while being supported by a live band. This collaboration exemplifies the strong sense of community and teamwork within the college.
Student Reflections
Summer Shearing, who portrayed the character Pam, expressed her emotions about the production, saying, "The Great British Bake Off musical is fun, energetic and such an exciting experience. As my last communal performance at Brock, it has been emotional, but full of so much joy." Such reflections highlight the personal growth and experiences that students undergo during their time in performing arts.
Innovative Show Format
To keep things fresh, the show featured two distinct casts known as the Cake Cast and the Bread Cast. The narrative of the musical follows the journey of eight contestants from the popular TV show, capturing both their challenges and triumphs as they grow both personally and as competitors. By blending the classic TV format with heartfelt stories, friendships, and humor, the production keeps the audience engaged while delivering a positive message.
Director’s Vision
Moira Rock, the curriculum leader for performing arts, music, and dance at the college, directed the production and noted the group's exceptional commitment to making the show a success. "This group has gone above and beyond to make this show an electrifying, feelgood event with a very positive message," she stated. "The chemistry among the students has been magnificent – they have given the show all the right ingredients."
A Bright Future
Tickets for the event sold out remarkably quickly, and all profits are set to be reinvested into the college's performing arts and music department. This not only reflects the high demand for such performances but also reinforces the college's commitment to fostering talent in the arts, ensuring future generations of students can benefit from a rich educational experience.
