Cambridgeshire SEN School on the Road to Success: Positive Progress Report
Riverside Meadows Academy, a secondary special educational needs (SEN) school in Cambridgeshire, is making significant strides towards improvement following a challenging evaluation by OFSTED. After being rated inadequate just a year ago, the school is now receiving recognition for making "positive progress," indicating a transformative journey ahead.
Leadership Changes Leading to Stability
The recent monitoring inspection highlighted that new leaders and trustees have succeeded in establishing much-needed stability within the school's environment. A key part of this transformation was the appointment of a new assistant head teacher responsible for curriculum and teaching, alongside a new CEO and executive team members at the Horizons Education Trust.
Improvements in Curriculum and Attendance
In a report published on April 20, OFSTED acknowledged the future-focused actions taken by the school, referring to the effective systems and processes put in place to reshape curriculum pathways and address challenging behaviours. Despite the need for further improvements, the overall attendance has begun to rise, and the school has seen a decrease in the number of students on part-time timetables along with a reduction in suspensions.
A Bright Future Ahead
Kate Lovegrove, the Co-Headteacher of Riverside Meadows Academy, expressed optimism regarding the positive feedback, stating, "We are pleased with the outcome of this first visit. There is still much work to do, but it is encouraging that inspectors have recognized we are focusing on the right priorities and taking the right steps in the right order." This affirmation of their efforts serves as motivation for the school community to continue down this path of improvement.
As Riverside Meadows Academy progresses, the changes implemented will hopefully create a more inclusive environment that supports the unique needs of its students, fostering both educational and personal development.
