Celebrating Brilliance: The Upcoming Dyslexia Awards Shine a Light on Remarkable Talent
The much-anticipated Dyslexia Awards, renowned for its inspiring atmosphere and community spirit, is set to take place this autumn in the West Midlands. The event encourages individuals, educators, and businesses from across the UK to participate and recognize the incredible achievements of those with dyslexia. Founded by Elizabeth Wilkinson MBE, a passionate advocate for the dyslexic community, the event aims to showcase the extraordinary talents of dyslexics in various fields.
Opening Nominations for New Categories
This year, nominations are officially open, and Elizabeth Wilkinson expressed her excitement, stating, “Each ceremony brings new stories of extraordinary talent and perseverance that truly inspire.” The awards will feature eight different categories, newly including the STEMM Award, which acknowledges dyslexic individuals over the age of 18 who have made significant contributions in fields like science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or medicine. Additionally, the Young Innovator Award for ages 14-19 has been introduced alongside other existing categories that spotlight the achievements of young dyslexics and other notable figures in the community.
A Platform for Recognition
Previous winners of the Dyslexia Awards have made significant impacts in various sectors, underscoring the notion that dyslexic thinking can lead to innovation and success. With approximately one in ten people affected by dyslexia, it’s crucial to promote an understanding of its challenges and celebrate the diverse talents within the dyslexic community. Elizabeth, who has been honored with an MBE for her contributions, emphasized the importance of supportive teaching and encouragement, stating, “With appropriate teaching and the encouragement to follow their dreams and strengths, dyslexics can and do succeed in all walks of life and professions.”
