On December 2, 2023, the awards ceremony at Fishmongers Hall was a glittering event attended by influential leaders and organizations dedicated to fostering excellence in workforce training.
Honoring Dedicated Employers
During the ceremony, 56 outstanding employers were celebrated for their commitment to leading-edge training initiatives. The President of the City & Guilds Foundation, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, presented the awards, emphasizing the profound impact of these training programs—over the last decade, nearly 1 million people have benefitted from innovations in learning that emerged from these awards.
Innovative Solutions for Key Challenges
This year’s honorees came from various sectors, showcasing a robust commitment to addressing some of the most pressing challenges in the UK and Ireland, such as skills shortages and an ageing workforce. Remarkably, 86% of award recipients reported increased productivity as a result of their training investments, evidencing the tangible benefits of enhanced learning and development practices.
Inspiring New Initiatives
The awards also introduced commendations for innovation, honoring organizations that are pushing the boundaries in training. Notably, Costa Coffee received recognition for its unique sensorial analysis program which elevates the coffee experience through sensory engagement. This dedication to innovative training methods exemplifies how organizations can blend traditional skills with modern approaches to enhance service delivery.
Focus on Diversity and Inclusion
Additionally, seven organizations received commendations for their efforts in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. Gower College Swansea stood out by implementing a pioneering menopause training initiative that significantly reduced staff absence associated with menopause challenges. Such forward-thinking initiatives not only support employees but also contribute to a healthier, more productive working environment.
A Future of Learning and Growth
Dame Ann Limb DBE DL, Chair of the City & Guilds Foundation, captured the essence of the awards, stressing the critical role of skill training in fostering economic and societal growth.
