Celebrating Excellence in Wellbeing: Windsor Academy Trust Shines at Youth Sport Trust Awards
The Windsor Academy Trust, stationed in Halesowen, has recently emerged victorious at the esteemed Youth Sport Trust Awards, claiming the Outstanding Approach to Wellbeing Award. This recognition highlights the Trust's unwavering commitment to prioritizing student wellbeing alongside academic achievement across its family of schools in the West Midlands.
A Focus on Wellbeing Through Sport
The Windsor Academy Trust has embraced a holistic vision that places physical education, sports, and physical activity at the core of its educational approach. By implementing the Youth Sport Trust’s Well School framework, they ensure that all primary schools within the Trust not only take part in structured active breaks but also exceed national recommendations with their curriculum time dedicated to PE.
Impressively, over 75 percent of pupils are engaged in at least one physical activity club per week, reinforcing the Trust’s mission to nurture well-rounded individuals capable of thriving academically and personally.
Voices of Inspiration
Chief Executive Dawn Haywood expressed profound gratitude upon receiving the award, stating, “It’s absolutely wonderful and it’s very humbling to know that we’ve won an award at the Youth Sport Trust Awards. We strive to make a difference to the wellbeing and health of children in our schools and communities.” Her remarks underline the clear interconnection between physical health and educational success, emphasizing the need to address both health and educational inequalities.
A Celebration of Impact
The awards ceremony was a gathering of notable figures from the sports community, including former England women’s rugby captain Sarah Hunter and Rugby World Cup winner Abbie Ward, who delivered compelling speeches about the significance of grassroots sports initiatives. Ward highlighted the fundamental role that schools and community contributors play in the development of professional athletes, stating, “These roles, and the people who are contributing to them, do so much and they don’t often get the chance to be put in the spotlight.”
This event was not just an awards ceremony; it was a celebration of innovation and dedication among schools, trusts, and individuals determined to leverage the power of sport to enhance child health and wellbeing throughout the year.
The Youth Sport Trust Conference Awards underscore the vital work being done to create brighter futures for children through sport and play, illustrating how inclusive practices can lead to transformative outcomes in education and beyond.
