Celebrating Success: The Haal Festival Shines in Portsoy

Last weekend, Portsoy was alive with music and community spirit as the Haal festival wrapped up another triumphant year. With organizers calling it one of their best yet, large crowds flooded the town's venues for an unforgettable three-day celebration filled with sold-out concerts and engaging performances.

A Festival to Remember

According to Folk at the Salmon Bothy, the festival's organizers, this year saw an impressive turnout, with attendance at workshops and sessions also on the rise. Celebrated performers from across the UK and Ireland, including Siobhan Miller and A Wheen o' Wimmin, captivated audiences with their talent, contributing to a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere throughout the event.

Exceptional Feedback

Organizer and chairman Bob Philips noted that feedback from both audiences and performers has been overwhelmingly positive. Many attendees hailed this year’s gathering as the strongest to date, praising the exceptional atmosphere created across the main stages and in community venues. Philips emphasized the vital role played by sponsors and local businesses, which helped ensure a highly acclaimed program of performances.

A Generous Spirit

One of the standout moments during the festival was a charity raffle, featuring a handcrafted guitar made by Stuart B. Campbell. This unique instrument, which took over 300 hours to create, raised an impressive £1,330 for Haal funds, showcasing the community's generosity and support for the arts.

Looking Forward

As this year's festival fades into memory, the organizers are already planning for the next Haal festival, scheduled for June 4-6, 2027. With early ideas being explored, it promises to build on the successes of this year, further enhancing Portsoy's reputation as a hub for musical celebration and community engagement.
