Celebrating Talent: Bradford College Honors Exceptional Apprentices at National Apprenticeship Week
In a heartwarming event in Bradford, the annual Star Awards were held to celebrate apprentices who have exemplified outstanding achievements in their training. Hosted by Bradford College at the Cedar Court Hotel, this year's awards illuminated the inspiring stories of individuals who have demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication throughout their apprenticeship journeys. The event coincided with National Apprenticeship Week 2026, reinforcing the importance of skill development and vocational education.
A Night of Recognition
The awards evening brought together students, families, local employers, and staff to honor the remarkable contributions of apprentices. Among the highlights, Tegan Durkin, an apprentice at The Poplars Dental Practice, was awarded the prestigious title of ‘CBRE Apprentice of the Year.’ Tegan’s story is one of determination; despite facing a serious health diagnosis early in her program, she continued to pursue her studies with enthusiasm and resilience.
Inspirational Journeys
Tegan expressed her shock and gratitude, stating, “I’m so surprised... I can’t believe I won! I’d 100% recommend an apprenticeship. You get real hands‑on experience while you study, and the support from the tutors and employers is just great!” Her story, along with those of other award winners, serves as a testament to the transformative power of apprenticeships.
Highlighting Exceptional Achievements
The event celebrated numerous individuals across various fields, with awards also going to Nida Hayat from St Philip’s CofE Primary School, who was recognized for her high-quality work while simultaneously caring for two children with additional needs. The achievements of Joseph Worth were also acknowledged with the ‘Breaking Barriers’ award for his remarkable resilience and contribution to the college's business needs.
Future Leaders in the Workforce
Alina Khan, Vice Principal of EDI & Student Experience at Bradford College, emphasized the significance of apprentices in shaping the future workforce, stating, “You are proof that vocational excellence drives innovation and builds the future workforce this country depends on.” The ceremony also recognized notable apprenticeship partners, with Northern Pump Supplier Ltd named ‘Apprenticeship Employer of the Year’.
Building Momentum for Apprenticeships
Concluding the night, Chris Leahy from CBRE delivered an empowering speech, encouraging apprentices to embrace their roles in the workplace. The celebration, fittingly held during National Apprenticeship Week, highlighted the essential contributions of apprentices and the industries they support. As Bradford College continues to champion the value of apprenticeships, it fosters a culture of growth, resilience, and community support.
