Celebrating the Courage and Kindness of Somerset’s Youth
Last month, an inspiring event took place in Somerset that recognized the outstanding achievements and community contributions made by its youth. The 2026 Pride of Somerset Youth Awards, held at the McMillan Theatre, celebrated young individuals who have demonstrated exceptional courage, kindness, and positive impact in their communities during its 19th year.
A Historical Year for Nominations
This year, the awards received a record number of nominations, showcasing the remarkable contributions that young people are making throughout Somerset. Nigel Muers-Raby, CEO of Passion for Somerset CIC, noted the extraordinary nature of this year's nominees, highlighting their commitment to making a difference. Each nominee has exhibited resilience and compassion, contributing to not only their schools but also supporting vulnerable individuals throughout the community.
An Evening of Inspiration
The event attracted notable attendees, including His Majesty’s lord lieutenant of Somerset and the high sheriff of Somerset, alongside families, educators, sponsors, and community leaders. Andy Berry, CEO of UCS College Group, commended the inspiring stories shared at the event, underscoring the positive impact these young individuals have in the county.
Looking Ahead
As the Pride of Somerset Youth Awards approach their 20th anniversary next year, the organisers remain committed to shining a light on the contributions of young people whose efforts often go unnoticed yet leave a lasting mark on their communities. This celebration not only honors past achievements but also serves as a motivation for future generations to continue their journey of kindness and leadership.
