Celebrating the Spirit of Active Ageing in Cornwall
In a heartwarming ceremony held at County Hall in Truro, Cornwall, the remarkable contributions of over-60s in the community were applauded through the 60 Over 60 campaign. The campaign garnered significant attention, leading to an impressive 220 nominations from various communities across Cornwall. This outpouring of support underscores a collective commitment to fostering an Age Friendly Community, in line with initiatives set forth by the World Health Organisation. The recognition ceremony celebrated finalists in twelve distinct categories, showcasing the diverse ways in which these individuals have enhanced community life.
Spotlighting Remarkable Individuals
Among the highlights was Carol Richardson, 80, who earned the title of Volunteer of the Year. Her extensive service includes roles with the Samaritans and Age UK, illustrating her dedication to improving the lives of those around her. Carol expressed her joy in helping others, emphasizing the fulfillment she derives from her work.
Another notable figure, Cym Downing, was honored as the Health and Wellbeing Advocate. Her compassion and tireless support at the Launceston Memory Café have made a tangible impact on attendees' lives. This sentiment was echoed by those she has helped, showcasing the deep connections forged through her work.
