Coastal Treasure Saved: A Legacy of Love for Nature

A stretch of stunning English coastline has been secured for future generations, thanks to the remarkable legacy of Reverend Anthony Mapplebeck, a local vicar whose passion for the outdoors has led to a significant conservation achievement. The National Trust has successfully acquired 34 acres of land near Fowey in Cornwall, using a financial bequest from Rev. Mapplebeck as part of their ongoing ‘Neptune Coastline Campaign.’

A Life Dedicated to Service

Rev. Mapplebeck dedicated much of his life to the Cornish communities, cherishing the coastline that surrounded him. Although he was originally from Surrey, his heart belonged to Cornwall where he lived with his mother close to the sea. His commitment to serving others was evident in his diligent performance of his duties, as remembered fondly by former parishioners who appreciated his quiet dedication.

Securing Natural Beauty for Future Generations

The acquisition of Alldays Field not only preserves the natural habitat but also ensures public access to this picturesque area. Situated adjacent to countryside already safeguarded by the Trust, this land acquisition represents a crucial step in comprehensive coastal preservation efforts. National Trust Ranger Andy Simmons emphasized the significance of this new addition, stating, “By joining this land with what’s around it, we can look after the coast as a whole.” This joint effort promotes wildlife conservation and maintains access routes for those who wish to explore the scenic trails.

A Lasting Legacy

The Neptune Coastline Campaign has successfully protected hundreds of miles of coastline across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, illustrating the profound impact of community-focused initiatives. With Rev. Mapplebeck's gift now realized, his legacy will continue to thrive, fostering a connection to nature that future generations will cherish. The newly acquired land allows uninterrupted access along the South West Coast Path, enriching the experience for walkers eager to enjoy the dramatic landscapes that define this iconic region.
