The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in Devon and Cornwall, as the BBC prepares to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities. The fifth edition of the BBC Make a Difference Awards is now calling for nominations, with a closing date set for March 31.

Another inspiring story comes from Sheila Gill of St Austell, who was recognized in 2024 for her unwavering commitment to her community. A former teacher, Sheila volunteers at her grandchildren's primary school, providing support to young readers, and actively participates in the local amateur operatic community. She expresses a humble view of her contributions, stating, "I don't think about it as giving up time - it's just good fun." Her approach emphasizes the joy and fulfillment that comes from helping others, serving as a model for how small acts of kindness can create ripples of positive change.
