Community Comes Together for Inspirational Bee Lady Day Event
In a heartwarming effort to celebrate community spirit and honor local legend Jean Bishop, also known as the Bee Lady, the Flemingate shopping center in Beverley has joined forces with business students from East Riding College for a special event on May 13. This initiative not only celebrates the life of a beloved figure in Hull but also aims to raise funds for Age UK Hull & East Yorkshire.
A Project with Purpose
The Bee Lady Day is more than just a commemorative event; it’s a live client project where students engage in hands-on experience by planning, marketing, and executing a public gathering. Jo Bridgeman, marketing and event manager for Flemingate, expressed pride in the collaboration: “Bee Lady Day is a wonderful way to bring our community together while celebrating the incredible legacy of Jean Bishop.”
Supporting Future Leaders
Rachel Foot, employability and placement coordinator for East Riding College, emphasized the real-world impact this project has on students: “This project gives our students the opportunity to work on a real-world brief with a real impact.” The event is set to inspire students as they honor a local icon while supporting a crucial cause for older adults in the area.
Fun Activities for All Ages
Bee Lady Day is designed to create an engaging atmosphere for families, featuring a variety of interactive activities. Hair and beauty students will be providing free face painting and nail stickers, catering students will offer delightful themed cakes, and fashion students will showcase handmade items for sale. The event will also feature live music performances by students from the music program, ensuring entertainment for everyone.
Join Us in Making a Difference
This free event invites everyone in the community to attend, donate, and celebrate the life of Jean Bishop. With its bee-themed decorations and a focus on kindness and community action, Bee Lady Day promises to create a vibrant “buzz” while supporting charitable initiatives that improve the lives of older individuals. A special appearance by Bertie Bee, the mascot for Age UK Hull & East Yorkshire, is sure to add to the festivities.
As we gather to remember an inspirational woman and support a meaningful cause, Bee Lady Day stands out as a shining example of community togetherness and the positive impact that can arise from collaboration.
