Community Unites to Celebrate Life of Beloved Westhoughton Local
In a heartfelt tribute, friends and family gathered at The Beer School in Westhoughton to honor the life of Steve Cregan, a cherished pub-goer and devoted supporter of the Wanderers. Steve, who recently passed away at the age of 70, was remembered for his kindness and the joy he brought to the community.
A Celebration of Life
The atmosphere at the celebration was filled with warmth and camaraderie, as attendees fondly recalled the impact Steve had on their lives. His son, James, organized a unique tribute by launching rockets containing Steve's ashes, a gesture that guests described as "very impressive." Steve's wife, Claire, expressed the importance of the venue, stating, "We couldn’t have celebrated his life anywhere else."
A Legacy of Community and Friendship
Steve's dedication to his community was evident throughout his life. A passionate member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), he enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of different beers with friends and family. His presence not only enriched The Beer School but also forged lasting connections that extended to his children, as his daughter Nicola even worked at the pub.
Honoring the Memory Through Charity
In a testament to Steve's loving spirit, Nicola initiated a tribute campaign to raise funds for Dogs’ Trust in his name, which has already gathered over £500. This gesture underscores Steve's belief in the power of community and love for all creatures, further solidifying his legacy.
The event featured Steve's favorite beer, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, and traditional Carrs pasties, combining cherished memories with what he loved most—great company and good conversation.
As his wife Claire said, "It was about the people, the conversations, and the warm welcome always extended." Steve's legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, reminding us all of the importance of community and the bonds that bring us together.
