Danantara's Record-Breaking Bond Issuance: A Beacon of Confidence for Investors

In a remarkable achievement for the financial landscape, BPI Danantara has successfully issued its first global bond worth an impressive US$1.5 billion. Initially, there were doubts surrounding the viability of this venture, yet the outcome has exceeded expectations, showcasing the robust demand for investment in the Indonesian market.

Unprecedented Demand Surpasses Projections

According to Rosan Roeslani, the head of Danantara, the demand for this bond issuance reached staggering levels—an impressive US$4.6 billion. This overwhelming interest was fueled by a comprehensive roadshow conducted across major financial hubs including Hong Kong, Singapore, Boston, London, and New York, indicating strong international investor confidence.

Investment Breakdown and Global Reach

The bonds are structured into two segments, each amounting to US$750 million, with tenors of five and ten years. The yields are set at 5.35% for the five-year bonds and 5.95% for the ten-year bonds. Notably, the largest percentage of buyers for the five-year bonds came from Europe and the Middle East at 41%, while U.S. investors dominated the ten-year segment with 52% of the total purchases.

Market Confidence in the Indonesian Economy

The recent issuance of these bonds is a significant indicator of confidence from international markets towards Indonesia, especially in light of previous pressures faced by the rupiah and the stock market. Rosan emphasized that the interest reflected during the roadshow is a positive sign of trust that global investors have in Danantara's policies and governance.

As Danantara continues to pave the way for future investments, this milestone serves as a testament to the growing attractiveness of Indonesia as a destination for international finance. The strong demand for Danantara's bonds signals a promising outlook as the nation looks to bolster its economic growth and global financial standing.
