In a letter to the council, Ofsted inspectors expressed appreciation for the “greater clarity,” “greater effort,” and “a more consistent service” being evident in the care services provided. Council Leader Councillor Julian Brazil welcomed these remarks, emphasizing the commitment to placing children at the forefront of local governance. He noted, “The changes we’ve been putting in place are now beginning to have a positive effect in supporting the most vulnerable in Devon.”
Improvements and Achievements
Ofsted's review marks a significant turnaround since their last visit in October 2024. The inspectors recognized the council's deliberate efforts to secure safe and stable housing for care leavers and improve opportunities for them in education and employment. Councillor Richard Jefferies, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, remarked on the necessity of maintaining this momentum, acknowledging the work of Personal Advisers who have shown unwavering dedication to the young individuals they serve.
