Discover a World of Farming and Fun at the Great Yorkshire Show!
The upcoming Great Yorkshire Show is set to be an exciting celebration of agriculture and nature, aimed particularly at educating the younger generation about the vital connections between farming, sustainability, and the environment. Scheduled to take place from Tuesday 14 to Friday 17 July, the show will feature a revamped Discovery Zone that promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
A Journey Through Nature and Farming
This year's Discovery Zone, sponsored by National Grid, will include a fascinating wildflower walkway and an interactive sustainable farming workshop designed for children and families. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the essential role of pollinators, such as bees, which contribute significantly to global food production. Beekeepers from across Yorkshire will present their local honey products, alongside educational demonstrations that bring the world of beekeeping to life.
Engaging Activities for All Ages
The event will cater to visitors of all ages with a wide variety of activities, including crafts, drystone walling, and even a mini Fodder food hall. Families can enjoy quality time together in a quiet gazebo area, while a nearby picnic area sponsored by Nestlé offers stunning views of the showground. The activities in the Discovery Zone are free and supported by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, emphasizing the commitment to making agricultural education accessible to everyone.
Empowering Schools and Future Generations
In an effort to further engage young minds, the Great Yorkshire Show is collaborating with local schools through the School Veg Box Competition. With a record 31 entries this year, the competition will culminate in a display featuring the finalists' entries, illustrating the importance of vegetables and nutrition.
To ensure that all students can participate, sponsors such as ASDA, Co-op, and McDonald’s are contributing to transportation costs for school visits, making the show an excellent opportunity for educational and fun outings.
