Discover How Older Adults are Redefining Active Living in Herefordshire and Worcestershire

In a remarkable testament to the vitality of older adults, the latest findings from the Sport England Active Lives Survey reveal that residents aged 55 and over in Herefordshire and Worcestershire are among the most physically active in England. With more than half of this age group engaging in at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week, they are not only meeting but exceeding the recommended benchmarks for a healthy lifestyle.

Celebrating Positive Ageing Week 2026

As we kick off Positive Ageing Week 2026, running from September 25 to October 2, communities across these counties are set to shine a spotlight on the inspiring stories shared by older individuals about their journeys to an active and healthy life. This initiative, organized by Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire in collaboration with Age UK and local councils, aims to highlight the significant contributions that older adults make to our communities.

Connecting Generations

The theme for this year's Positive Ageing Week, "Connecting Generations," emphasizes the importance of intergenerational relationships and the invaluable exchange of wisdom and experiences. Stephen Brewster, CEO of Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, stated, "This celebration recognizes the contribution older people make to our communities every day. It’s essential to share these inspiring narratives and encourage others to learn from them."

Throughout the week, various stories showcasing the benefits of an active lifestyle will be disseminated across social media platforms, encouraging all age groups to partake in healthier habits and embrace an active lifestyle.

Engaging the Community

Local organizations and residents are urged to get involved in Positive Ageing Week, whether that means getting active themselves or sharing personal stories that highlight the joys and rewards of physical activity. A campaign toolkit is available for download on the Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire website, helping to spread the movement and motivate participants throughout the region.

This initiative not only celebrates the remarkable achievements of older adults but also paves the way for a more active future that encourages all generations to collaborate and support each other in pursuing healthier lives.
