Discover the Exciting New Developments at the Great Yorkshire Show!

The upcoming Great Yorkshire Show is set to be a spectacular event, not just for attendees, but especially for families and children. Scheduled from July 14-17, this year's show will feature an enhanced Discovery Zone that promises to connect young visitors with the stories of farming and nature.

A Journey Through Nature and Farming

Sponsored by National Grid, the Discovery Zone will showcase a new wildflower walkway created with seeds from Frontier Agriculture. This walkway will educate visitors about the critical role of pollinators while allowing them to enjoy the beauty of local flora. Additionally, a unique experience awaits in the Hives and Honey section, featuring demonstrations by local beekeepers, where families can learn about beekeeping and sample distinct local honey products.

Engaging Activities for All Ages

The activities planned for the Discovery Zone cater to all ages, including a mini food hall, drystone walling, crafts, and even face painting. A new gazebo will provide a quiet area for families, along with a picnic spot sponsored by Nestlé offering picturesque views of the showgrounds.

Celebrating Sustainability and Education

Rachel Coates, the Show Director, emphasizes the importance of educating younger generations about the interconnectedness of soil, insects, and farming. The show aims to celebrate and promote British produce, as well as acknowledge commercial farms that prioritize conversation and environmental stewardship through the prestigious Tye Trophy award.

Supporting Local Schools

A significant highlight this year is the record number of entries for the annual School Veg Box Competition, with 31 entries culminating in a display of finalists in the Discovery Zone. Schools also have the opportunity for discounted group bookings, ensuring that children can partake in this educational and fun experience. Thanks to local businesses like ASDA, Co-op, and McDonald's, transport costs are being subsidized, making visits even more accessible for students.

The Great Yorkshire Show promises to be a vibrant mixture of education, fun, and inspiration, encouraging families to appreciate the role of farming and nature in our daily lives.
