Discover the Joy of Community: Celebrating Positive Ageing Month in Ards and North Down

This September, residents of Ards and North Down are invited to engage in a meaningful celebration of their community as part of Positive Ageing Month 2026. This initiative not only spotlights the contributions of older individuals but also promotes ways for them to remain active, connected, and engaged within their communities.

A Month of Engagement and Exploration

Led by Age Friendly Ards and North Down in collaboration with the Public Health Agency, this year's theme, 'What's On Your Doorstep?', emphasizes the multitude of opportunities available to residents right in their local area. From social groups and educational programs to fitness initiatives and local attractions, the aim is to encourage older residents to take full advantage of what their community has to offer.

The Positive Ageing Roadshow

As part of this month's activities, a free Positive Ageing Roadshow is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 22 October at the Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing and Leisure Complex. Funded by various local agencies, this event promises a day full of informative sessions, light physical activities, and opportunities to connect with various exhibitors who can provide practical resources for healthy aging.

Mayor Craig Blaney remarked on the significance of this event, stating, "Positive Ageing Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contribution older people make to life across Ards and North Down." He urged residents to register for the Roadshow to discover the wealth of resources available in their area.

Registration and Participation

Interested individuals are encouraged to register by Thursday, 15 October, with provisions for a reserve list should attendance exceed capacity. The event is open to all, whether attending solo or bringing a friend along, fostering a spirit of community and support.
