Discover the Joy of Cycling: New Bike Shed Opens on the Black Isle

Efforts to promote active travel on the Black Isle have taken a significant leap forward with the recent opening of a new bike shed. This new facility, established by Black Isle Bicycles in collaboration with Transition Black Isle, is more than just a storage space; it’s a catalyst for change, encouraging residents and visitors alike to embrace a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle.

A Destination for Cyclists

The initiative aims to transform the Black Isle into a premier cycling destination. With the introduction of bike sheds at key locations like the Black Isle Leisure Centre in Fortrose and Brownhill (Eathie), cyclists can easily park their own bicycles or rent pre-booked bikes and e-bikes. This not only facilitates commuting and tourism but also promotes an eco-friendly way to explore the beautiful peninsula.

Scenic Routes Await

With a plethora of cycling routes available, the Black Isle offers an adventurous escape into nature. Cyclists can enjoy rides to nearby towns such as Cromarty, via the picturesque northern shores, or take the scenic Cromarty-Nigg ferry across the firth, running from June to October. The area also boasts routes leading to Rosemarkie Beach, where visitors can relax and perhaps catch a glimpse of dolphins at Chanonry Point, one of the prime dolphin-watching spots in Scotland.

Easy Booking for Everyone

Joining the cycling movement is simple; by registering as a free visitor member with the Black Isle Library of Things, individuals gain access to browse and book bikes online. This streamlined process encourages more people to partake in cycling, making it accessible to everyone. Whether you're a local resident or just visiting, this initiative paves the way for a healthier lifestyle and deeper community connections through the joy of cycling.
