A heartwarming initiative in Scotswood has taken shape as 'Book Fairies' emerge to leave books for children to discover, a project that aims to instill a love for reading among the local youth. Spearheaded by Healthworks in collaboration with the New Tyne West Development Company (NTWDC), this initiative also encourages the community to engage with the nearby Denton Burn Library.

Encouraging Literacy Through Community Engagement

Lisa Conroy from Healthworks highlights the organization's commitment to fostering an interest in literature. Through funded library sessions, they have provided not only free books but also engaging activities such as story time, interactive games, and arts and crafts, complemented by snacks for families. These efforts are designed to create a fun and welcoming environment that promotes literacy among children.

Support from National Literacy Trust

The National Literacy Trust has stepped in to supply the books for this enchanting project. Linzi Winn, the trust's manager for the North East, expressed her delight in being part of such a transformative initiative: "We know that when children and young people are given opportunities to discover stories in ways that feel fun and imaginative, this can help to nurture a love of reading which can have a lifelong impact."
