Empowering Change: Exciting Workshops and Honorable Achievements at RIT

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is buzzing with positive energy this spring as Professor Krystle Ellis presents a series of inspiring workshops aimed at fostering personal and professional growth. As the 2025-2026 Minett Professor at RIT and the executive director of the Women's Foundation of Genesee Valley, Ellis is committed to equipping participants with essential skills.

Engaging Workshops Designed for Everyone

Ellis invites students, staff, and faculty to join her for three engaging workshops that promise to stimulate meaningful conversations. The first, "Loving Conflict: How to enter conflict with curiosity and without fear of the outcome," takes place on February 24th. This workshop is aimed at transforming perceptions around conflict and fostering a collaborative approach to challenges.

The second workshop, "So What’s Next for Me? How to execute the vision in your head," scheduled for March 24th, focuses on helping participants transition from ideas to action. Limited to 30 attendees, this interactive session emphasizes practical strategies to realize personal visions.

Finally, on April 29th, attendees can benefit from "Is Entrepreneurship Really for Me? What to know before you dive in," a session designed to provide valuable insights for aspiring entrepreneurs. This workshop also accommodates a limited audience, underscoring the personalized approach that Ellis advocates.

Celebrating Leadership and Community Engagement

In addition to these workshops, RIT is pleased to recognize Taj Smith, executive director for Community and Education, who will be honored at the upcoming 50th Antonio Johnson Scholarship Gala at Xavier University. Smith's contributions have significantly impacted the Black campus community, showcasing the importance of diversity and leadership in educational spaces.

Smith's commitment extends beyond recognition; he has accepted a two-year term on RIT's University Advisory Committee on Gender Related Experience and will begin a three-year term with the Pittsford School District's Planning Team. These roles are a testament to his dedication to fostering inclusive environments.

A Legacy of Excellence

RIT also bids farewell to Alexandria Collins, who has made a lasting impact in her five years at the institution. Transitioning to a school counselor role in the Greece Central School District, Collins exemplifies commitment to student success and engagement. RIT expresses gratitude for her contributions and wishes her the best in her new endeavor.

As RIT continues to foster an environment of learning, empowerment, and recognition, these initiatives and achievements reflect the profound impact of its community. The workshops presented by Krystle Ellis, the honors bestowed upon Taj Smith, and the successful transition of Alexandria Collins collectively embody the spirit of growth and inspiration at RIT.
