Empowering Future Generations: Over 3,800 Students Thrive in Junior Good Citizen Initiative

In a remarkable display of community support and commitment to safety education, the Junior Good Citizen initiative has successfully engaged over 3,800 students in Swindon and Wiltshire, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills as they prepare for their transition to secondary school. Over the past two weeks in June, this impactful program was conducted at the Punjabi Centre in Swindon and the Wiltshire Scout Centre in Potterne, demonstrating a collaborative effort between Wiltshire Police and local organizations.

Comprehensive Safety Education

The initiative provided Year 7 students with interactive sessions covering vital topics such as internet safety, healthy relationships, and mental health. In Swindon alone, approximately 2,259 children from 47 schools participated, engaging in activities designed to raise awareness and build resilience. Similarly, about 1,615 students from Wiltshire schools took part in discussions surrounding drugs, alcohol awareness, road safety, and the importance of kindness, highlighting a well-rounded approach to safety education.

A Community-Driven Effort

Chief Inspector Steven Jolly of the Wiltshire Police Neighbourhood Harm and Reduction Unit emphasized the initiative's importance for young people's development. "Junior Good Citizen continues to be an incredibly important programme in helping young people build awareness, resilience, and confidence at a key stage in their lives," he remarked, showcasing the significant impact of such community-driven efforts.
