Empowering the Future: A Celebration of Young Achievers in Devon
An inspiring event took place as the University of Exeter hosted a graduation ceremony for 48 teenage boys who have successfully completed a transformative course aimed at broadening their horizons. The initiative, aptly named Community Exe, sets out to provide young men aged 13 to 16 with valuable life opportunities and essential information about careers and education.
A Star-Studded Graduation Ceremony
The graduation was graced by the presence of comedian Josh Widdicombe, who presented the awards and praised the initiative's impact. His involvement, alongside a team of athletes, scientists, and actors, underscores the project's commitment to connecting youth with positive role models. Widdicombe expressed his admiration, stating, “Community Exe is an incredible project and it is an honour to even be such a small part of it. It is great to see what this experience has done for these young men and I hope this is just the start for both them and Community Exe.”
Building Skills and Confidence
The programme included engagement in various activities focused on sports, music, communication, AI and technology, or young leadership. This diverse set of specializations empowers participants to discover and develop their passions while fostering a sense of community and belonging. Through partnerships with local community leaders and champions, these young men have not only learned valuable skills but have also been inspired to see a future full of possibilities.
The Power of Community Support
Melissa Ruddock, Widening Participation Manager at the University of Exeter, highlighted the program’s success as a testament to the strength of community involvement. She remarked on the critical role played by Community Champions, stating, “The success of the programme shows the power of community in helping young men feeling valued and getting access to role models. The impact has been very special to see.” This statement encapsulates the essence of Community Exe - creating a supportive environment where young males can thrive.
This initiative not only celebrates the achievements of its participants but also serves as a reminder of the positive change that can be fostered through community engagement and mentorship. As these young men embark on their new journeys, they do so with enhanced confidence and an expanded network of role models who believe in their potential.
