Empowering Young Minds: A New Initiative in Redcar
A transformative project aimed at helping young people in Redcar is making waves as it provides essential life skills to those living with autism or facing mental health challenges. The 'Pathways' program, launched by Jenny Crawford of Wellbeing Plus, is designed to build confidence and independence in participants aged 16 to 25.
Creating Safe Spaces for Growth
Recognizing that traditional youth provisions often feel intimidating, the Pathways program focuses on smaller group sessions tailored to individual needs. This approach aims to foster trust in a non-pressurized, social environment. Ms. Crawford stated, "Through creative projects and skill-building workshops, we can help young people develop self-confidence and make decisions for themselves."
Support from the Community
Recently, the initiative received a £200 grant from Broadacres’ Community Development Fund, enabling it to acquire equipment to better serve the young participants. The program features hands-on activities like gardening and crafting, which not only promote independence but also provide opportunities for personal growth.
The Vision Behind Wellbeing Plus
Ms. Crawford, who founded Wellbeing Plus in 2018 after overcoming her own challenges, has dedicated her life to assisting others in managing their health. Her vision centers on creating safe, inclusive spaces where individuals feel heard and connected, enhancing their overall well-being.
Looking Ahead
The Broadacres Community Development Fund continues to support initiatives like Pathways that enhance community welfare. As applications for future funding opportunities become available, organizations are encouraged to strike while the iron is hot and seek out these resources for continued support.
