Empowering Youth: Essex School Receives Grant for Mental Health Support

In a remarkable effort to prioritize mental health among students, Runwell Community Primary School in Wickford has been awarded a £5,000 grant for the enhancement of its mental health services. This initiative comes in commemoration of Mental Health Awareness Week, highlighting the importance of mental well-being in educational environments.

Support for Students and Staff

The grant will empower the school community by providing access to the myHappyMind program, which is commissioned by the NHS. This program is designed to help young people cultivate mental well-being, resilience, confidence, and self-esteem. Charlotte Castle, Deputy Headteacher and Inclusion Manager at the school, expressed pride in the school's ability to create a supportive atmosphere, stating that they are excited to equip children with the necessary skills to better understand their emotions.

Innovative Initiatives

The initiative will not only expand support for students but will also provide valuable resources for parents and staff. With an NHS-backed curriculum, an app for home resources, and a dedicated wellbeing program for educators, the school is taking comprehensive steps toward fostering a healthy mental landscape for all its members.

The Role of Happiness Heroes

Among the innovative aspects of this program is the training of a group of pupils dubbed the "Happiness Heroes." These students will learn to provide support to their classmates, thus promoting a culture of care and understanding within the school. One of the trained ambassadors expressed enthusiasm about the program, emphasizing the importance of happiness and their desire to help their peers feel good daily.

Existing Wellbeing Support
