Exciting Innovations Await at the Great Yorkshire Show 2026!
The upcoming Great Yorkshire Show is set to deliver an enhanced experience for children and families with the introduction of a bigger and better Discovery Zone. Scheduled to take place from Tuesday, July 14 to Friday, July 17, this dedicated area promises to connect young visitors with the captivating stories of farming and nature.
A Journey Through Nature and Farming
This year, the Discovery Zone will feature an interactive wildflower walkway and a sustainable farming workshop, courtesy of National Grid. The walkway, sown with seeds from Frontier Agriculture, aims to educate visitors on the vital role of pollinators, crucial to our ecosystem.
In an engaging addition, beekeepers from across Yorkshire will showcase unique local honey products in the Hives and Honey section, drawing attention to the importance of beekeeping. Not only will it highlight the art of honey production, but it will also engage children through observation hives and hands-on bee handling demonstrations.
Fostering Future Generations
Rachel Coates, Show Director, emphasized the significance of nurturing an understanding among new generations regarding the intricate balance of soils, insects, and agriculture. "It is a story we are keen to celebrate at the Show, to help our visitors really appreciate British produce and the role of farmers,” she remarked.
Newcomers like Little Seed Oil will also join the Discovery Zone, sharing engaging stories of sustainable farming practices and the importance of healthy soils, further inspiring children to recognize the harmony between nature and agriculture.
Engaging Activities for All
The Discovery Zone is packed with a wide array of activities suitable for all ages, including crafts, face painting, and pedal tractors. Families will also find a dedicated gazebo offering a tranquil space to relax, while a picnic area sponsored by Nestlé provides stunning views of the showgrounds.
This vibrant environment is complemented by the Society’s annual School Veg Box Competition, which has attracted a record number of entries this year. Students from primary schools will showcase their vegetable boxes, adding to the educational experience of the event.
Accessibility and Inclusivity
To ensure that the event is accessible to everyone, there are discounted group bookings available for schools, while contributors like ASDA and Co-op are aiding in transport costs for some classes. This approach shows a concerted effort to make learning about agriculture and sustainability a fun yet attainable experience for young learners.
With 140,000 visitors expected over the four days, the Great Yorkshire Show stands out as not just a showcase of agricultural excellence but as an event that truly values education, community, and the environment. Tickets are now on sale, locked at last year’s prices to further encourage attendance.
