Exciting Opportunities Await: Liverpool Sculpture Prize Opens for 2026!

Artists across the UK have a golden opportunity to showcase their talent as the Liverpool Sculpture Prize officially opens for its third year. This prestigious competition invites sculptors to submit their entries for a chance to win a £2,500 prize and have their work displayed in a prominent location for an entire year.

A Celebration of Artistic Talent

The Liverpool Sculpture Prize, managed by the Liverpool Business Improvement District and Liverpool Parish Church, aims to elevate the creative community by highlighting the value of public art. This year, the call for entries will remain open from February 8 until April 8, 2026, allowing ample time for artists to submit their innovative designs.

Showcasing Creativity in a Historic Setting

Selected pieces will be unveiled to the public in June 2026, with the display set to be in the vibrant Liverpool Parish Church area, either on a beautiful plinth on Chapel Street or in the picturesque church gardens overlooking the waterfront. This setting has a rich artistic history, having previously featured notable works like Brian Burgess’s ‘Christ on a Donkey’ and other installations during the Liverpool Biennial.

Last Year's Champion: A Beacon of Inspiration

The 2025 Sculpture Prize was awarded to Wirral artist Ben Stephenson for his striking piece, ‘Laminae’. Inspired by his travels in South America, his work uses rammed earth to create a monumental yet ephemeral sculpture that reflects on themes of time, erosion, and regeneration. Katie Bentley, the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Communications at Liverpool Business Improvement District, shared her enthusiasm for Ben's work, noting its uplifting presence and the profound impact public art can have on community engagement.

With the aim to find artwork that is both thought-provoking and accessible, the Liverpool Sculpture Prize seeks submissions that will capture the attention of locals and visitors alike. This initiative is not only a fantastic platform for artists but also a celebration of culture and creativity in the heart of Liverpool.

Artists interested in participating in this inspiring event can find more details and application guidelines on the official Liverpool Sculpture Prize website.
