Exciting Opportunity: Liverpool Sculpture Prize Invites New Talents for 2026
Artists across the UK have a golden opportunity to showcase their talent as applications for the prestigious Liverpool Sculpture Prize are now open. Set to enter its third year, this competition invites sculptors to submit their work in hopes of winning not only a £2,500 prize but also a chance for their art to be displayed in the vibrant city of Liverpool for a whole year.
A Platform for Creativity
The Liverpool Sculpture Prize, expertly managed by the Liverpool Business Improvement District and Liverpool Parish Church, aims to spotlight the incredible creativity of artists throughout the UK. Submissions are open from February 8 until April 8, 2026, culminating in a public unveiling of the winning piece in June 2026.
Showcasing Artistic Impact
The judging panel, composed of esteemed individuals from the arts, business, and creative sectors, will select the winning entry based on its thought-provoking nature and ability to engage the public. This event not only provides a significant platform for artists but also enhances the urban landscape, allowing public art to narrate the shared stories of the community.
A Legacy of Artistic Excellence
Last year, Wirral artist Ben Stephenson won the accolade for his innovative work, ‘Laminae’, an art piece inspired by his travels in South America. His creation reflects themes of time, erosion, and regeneration, capturing the essence of public art's ability to resonate deeply within the community. Katie Bentley, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Communications at Liverpool Business Improvement District, praised Ben’s work, emphasizing the uplifting impact such public installations have on everyday life.
Get Involved
This is more than just a competition; it's an invitation to contribute to the cultural tapestry of Liverpool. Artists are encouraged to create pieces that not only catch the eye but also provoke thought and reflection among viewers. The Liverpool Sculpture Prize heralds a bright future for public art in the city, and we eagerly await the innovative submissions that will emerge from this annual challenge.
