An East Cleveland bakery has initiated a wave of revitalization at Redcar Central Station, marking a significant step in creating a welcoming retail environment. Family-run bakery Lark opened its doors on September 14, becoming the first business to occupy the refurbished retail units at this key transport hub.

The opening of Lark is part of a broader effort by the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council to enhance the station's offerings and make it an inviting gateway to the town. According to Council leader Councillor Alec Brown, the arrival of this local independent business is a very positive development, “I am over the moon… This is the gateway to our town, and I'm so happy local businesses are the ones taking up the units,” he commented, expressing optimism about future developments.

The refurbishment of the station, supported by funds from the UK Government, the Tees Valley Combined Authority, and the Railway Heritage Trust, aims not only to bring new shops but also to attract more visitors to the town center. With demand clearly evident and only one unit still available, the council anticipates announcing additional businesses joining Lark soon.
