This summer, Edinburgh is set to unveil a unique cultural phenomenon with the introduction of the UK's first Sauna Theatre. The 80-seat Sauna Theatre features a horseshoe configuration around steaming stoves, enhancing the viewing experience while allowing for a communal atmosphere. The rich programme will also include innovative adaptations like Aufguss x The Waves, offering a fresh take on Virginia Woolf's masterpiece, and Mysteries of the Picts, exploring ancient Scottish narratives.

While sauna theatres have a long-standing tradition in parts of Europe, such as Italy and Scandinavia, Grieve notes that this initiative is a pioneering step for the UK theatre scene. "We’re really good at making theatre, so the excitement for us is introducing our incredible theatre industry to sauna as a new space in which to make work and to take audiences on magical journeys," he adds.
