This October, Greater Manchester is set to showcase its commitment to improving workplace standards with the return of Good Employment Week from October 5 to 9, 2026. This annual event aims to unite employers, employees, and stakeholders in exploring the vital role that workplace culture plays in fostering good employment across the region.
A Focus on Workplace Culture
This year’s campaign zeroes in on the theme of workplace culture and its influence on employee experience, organizational performance, and overall workforce wellbeing. As part of the week’s activities, residents will be encouraged to reflect on their work experiences through an interactive online word cloud, where they can submit words that best encapsulate how they feel about their jobs. This dynamic tool will provide a real-time snapshot of sentiments surrounding work across Greater Manchester.
Leadership and Commitment to Good Employment
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Bev Craig, emphasized the region's proactive approach to raising employment standards. With over 2,500 employers engaging with the Good Employment Charter, the initiative now represents more than 3 million employees working for organizations committed to fostering better workplaces. Mayor Craig stated, “We’re putting the Good Employment Charter at the heart of our approach to good growth, by investing and working with partners who share our values of fairness, dignity, and opportunity.”

According to Ian MacArthur, Director of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter, the focus has expanded from simply creating good jobs to enhancing the culture that supports these roles. He pointed out that while policies are essential, aspects like trust, respect, belonging, and purpose are equally critical. Good Employment Week serves as a platform to delve into these discussions and promote a vision where good employment is the standard across the city-region.
