Hidden Help: A Beacon of Hope for Families in Need
The charity sector is often spotlighted for the challenges it faces, but at Hidden Help, they are celebrating the positive impact they are making in the community. Based in Scorrier, Cornwall, Hidden Help has experienced an unprecedented surge in demand for their services, with reports indicating they assist around 60 families each month—many of whom are homeless or escaping domestic violence.
Transforming Lives Through Donations
Founded by Judy Backus in 2007, and officially registered as a charity in 2021, Hidden Help focuses on providing essential household items and furniture to those in dire need. The charity takes in donations from the public, refurbishing and recycling them to ensure families moving into unfurnished properties have what they need to thrive. Last year alone, they helped 821 families transition into comfortable living situations.
The Rewards of Giving Back
Adrian "Wally" Sanders, a driver for the charity, reflects on the gratifying nature of delivering assistance to those in need. He emphasized, "People need help and it's great to deliver. They're always very appreciative." The connection formed during these deliveries not only fulfills a practical need but also provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment for the volunteers.
A Testimonial of Hope
One of the clients, who chose to remain anonymous, shared a moving account of their experience. After losing their home to a fire, they found themselves in a temporary empty flat. They remarked on how quick and impactful the charity's help was: "It was absolutely jam packed, full of all sorts of goodies. All the things that I was craving.” This practical assistance included essential kitchenware, highlighting how even the smallest items can make a significant difference in someone's life.
As Hidden Help continues to rise to the occasion, their commitment to supporting families echoes the positive power of community action and the lengths to which people will go to uplift one another in times of need.
