Historic Penrhos Cottage Set for Essential Restoration Thanks to Major Grant

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Museum Service has secured a significant £20,000 grant from the Pilgrim Trust, aimed at restoring and conserving Penrhos Cottage, a historic site important to Welsh cultural heritage. Located near Llanycefn in Maenclochog, Penrhos Cottage is the last surviving tŷ unnos, or overnight cottage, steeped in history dating back to the early 1800s. These cottages, constructed on common land overnight with assistance from the local community, served as essential shelters for those in need. The current restoration project aims to preserve not only the physical structure of the cottage but also its cultural significance.

The restoration efforts will include crucial repairs to the thatched roof, lime mortar walls, and enhancements to the immediate surroundings, facilitated by skilled contractors.
