The search is on to recognize and celebrate the inspirational spirit of Newport's children and young people facing complex health challenges. Nominations for the prestigious 2026 WellChild Awards are now open, providing an opportunity to highlight the resilience and courage of these remarkable individuals and their caregivers.
Shining a Light on Unsung Heroes
Organized by the national charity WellChild in partnership with GSK, the awards aim to acknowledge not only the bravery of children living with serious health issues but also the dedication of the families and professionals who support them. Matt James, CEO of WellChild, emphasizes the importance of these awards as a platform to share the stories of unsung heroes throughout Newport. He invites the community to nominate inspirational figures who embody hope and perseverance in the face of adversity.
A Celebration of Courage
Last year's awards showcased incredible stories, such as that of Esmée, a seven-year-old who has bravely undergone 35 surgeries, and Gwen, a ten-year-old wheelchair racer who defies the challenges posed by spina bifida. The WellChild Awards celebrate such achievements and provide vital recognition that can greatly impact the lives of deserving individuals.
