Hope Restored: Ramsgate's Vital Youth Center Secures Its Future

In an inspiring turn of events, one of England's coastal towns, Ramsgate, has seen a wave of hope and relief following the successful campaign to save its last youth center from closure. This facility, run by the nonprofit Pie Factory Music, has been a cornerstone of the community for 13 years, offering vital support to young people aged 8 to 25.

As preparations emerged for the town council to auction off the land on which the Pie Factory operates, local residents and community groups rallied together to raise awareness about the significant benefits the center brings to Ramsgate. The youth center provides essential services including counseling, employment advice, and a safe environment for creative projects and social interaction.

Financial Support Secures a Bright Future

Thanks to the efforts of the community and a grant from the government’s “Pride in Place” strategy, Pie Factory Music secured more than $500,000 to purchase the freehold title of the land, ensuring their operations can continue uninterrupted. Brian Horton, interim chair of the Ramsgate Neighborhood Board, emphasized the commitment the board has made to fostering safe and positive spaces for future generations.

Zoë Carassik, the chief executive of Pie Factory, expressed heartfelt gratitude for this support, noting, “Knowing our future in the building is secure fills us with hope and relief.” The center’s activities range from cooking classes for refugee families to engaging youth in music and sports, creating an inclusive environment where every child can feel valued and heard.
