Igniting Creativity: Exciting Youth Theatre Workshops Launch This Summer

This summer, Harrogate Library is set to become a vibrant hub of creativity and storytelling as it hosts a series of inspiring workshops designed for young people. These events celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026 and aim to spark imagination, build confidence, and nurture a love for theatre among participants.

Workshops That Welcome All

The workshops are open to everyone, regardless of whether they are current members of the Harrogate Youth Theatre. This inclusive approach encourages young people to embrace their creativity, make new friends, and discover the joy of theatre in a fun and welcoming environment.

Taskmaster Fun for Teens

For older children and teenagers in Years 7-13, the workshops will feature a unique twist on the popular television show, Taskmaster. Participants will engage in a series of quirky challenges that promise not only to entertain but also to enhance their communication and performance skills. Under the guidance of renowned comedian Alex Horne, attendees will enjoy an afternoon filled with laughter, teamwork, and innovative problem-solving.

Play in a Day for Younger Creatives

Younger participants, specifically those in Years 3-6, will have the opportunity to partake in a full-day workshop titled "Play in a Day." This exciting session will culminate in a unique performance, allowing children to channel their creativity into a magical adventure inspired by the beloved pantomime, Sleeping Beauty. The original story will be crafted collaboratively, enabling each child to contribute to the storytelling process.

Supporting Disadvantaged Youth

In a commendable effort to be inclusive, Harrogate Youth Theatre has partnered with North Yorkshire Council Youth Service to offer ten free places for disadvantaged young people. This initiative ensures that everyone, regardless of their background, has the chance to experience the magic of theatre and storytelling.

A Word from the Creative Engagement Manager

Elizabeth Key, the Creative Engagement Manager, expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating, "Harrogate Youth Theatre is delighted to be taking up residence at Harrogate Library for these workshops, making the most of a space that celebrates reading, creativity, and imagination. These sessions are designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for everyone." Her words encapsulate the spirit of these workshops, emphasizing the importance of community engagement through creativity.

With a commitment to making theatre accessible to all, Harrogate Library is poised for a summer filled with stories, creativity, and adventure. Young people are encouraged to seize this opportunity to explore their imaginations and enhance their skills in a supportive environment.
