On 24th February, Bradford College held its annual Star Awards to honor apprentices who exemplify excellence during National Apprenticeship Week 2026. This joyous event celebrated remarkable achievements, resilience, and personal growth, showcasing how vocational training paves the way for a brighter future.

Held at the Cedar Court Hotel, the ceremony brought together students, staff, families, and local employers for a memorable evening filled with inspiring stories. One of the highlights was the presentation of the ‘CBRE Apprentice of the Year’ award to Tegan Durkin from The Poplars Dental Practice, who has shown extraordinary commitment and enthusiasm for her studies despite facing significant health challenges. Tegan expressed her surprise and delight at receiving the top award, emphasizing the real-world skills gained through the apprenticeship model. “You get real hands-on experience while you study, and the support from the tutors and employers is just great!” she remarked, reflecting the sentiments shared by many of her peers.

Other awardees included Nida Hayat from St Philip’s CofE Primary School, who won the ‘Adult Apprentice of the Year’ award for her outstanding work alongside her responsibilities as a mother of two children with additional needs. Joseph Worth received the ‘Breaking Barriers’ award, showcasing remarkable tenacity in overcoming obstacles within his college program.
The event also recognized numerous apprenticeship partners for their contributions, with the ‘Apprenticeship Employer of the Year’ award going to Northern Pump Supplier Ltd. This highlights the critical role that employers play in nurturing talent and supporting the apprenticeship journey.

Chris Leahy, Business Unit Leader at CBRE, delivered a compelling speech about the importance of apprenticeships in today’s workforce, encouraging students to embrace their roles as future leaders.
