In a heartfelt gathering, Barking and Dagenham Council celebrated Volunteers' Week with a special event aimed at honoring the individuals who selflessly dedicate their time to uplift the community. This event, which took place on June 2, served as a testament to the incredible contributions made by volunteers across the borough.

A Remarkable Impact

During the past year, an impressive 364 volunteers have come together to contribute a staggering 20,500 hours of service. These individuals have played a pivotal role in strengthening community ties, providing support to vulnerable residents, and enhancing local services, showcasing the profound impact of volunteerism in the area.

Stories of Motivation and Change

Among the attendees, volunteers Nur Alam and Afsana Hashmi shared their personal experiences, emphasizing the positive changes that volunteering has brought into their lives. Their stories reflect not only personal growth but also how their efforts have fostered a better quality of life for those around them.

The event included a ceremony to acknowledge outstanding volunteer efforts, where several individuals received the coveted 'Star of the Year' awards. Notably, John Bangura was honored as 'Volunteer of the Year' for his remarkable achievement of 900 hours as a Digital Champion, in addition to his work at the Barking Community Hub.
