Inspiring Women United: The HER Story Event Celebrates Change

This October, the annual HER Story event, part of the Art of The Minds festival, promises to shine a spotlight on the remarkable journeys of women making significant impacts in the mental health sector. It is set to be a gathering of empowerment, connection, and inspiration.

HER Story aims to provide a platform for women to share their experiences, with this year’s lineup featuring notable figures such as Louise Larkin, an advocate for inclusivity for children with neurodivergence, and Emma Land, an accredited mental health professional. Elizabeth Riordan, vice-president of Art of The Minds, emphasizes the importance of diverse stories in inspiring a community of support and resilience.

Transformative Experiences

Louise Larkin's journey, from corporate events to founding Friend in Me, showcases how personal experiences can lead to profound change. After hearing a heart-wrenching story about a mother whose son was left without party invites due to his disability, Larkin took it upon herself to create a celebratory space for all children. What began as one party in Melbourne has now blossomed into a thriving organization, hosting events that draw over 2,500 attendees, further educating communities about inclusion and belonging.

Creative Expression and Community Support

The HER Story event isn’t just about speaking; it also includes creative workshops such as beeswax candle-making, poetry, and live illustrations, fostering an environment where art meets mental health awareness. The funds raised will support the Surf Coast Mental Health First Aid 500 project, furthering the initiative's reach and impact.

On 18 October from 1 PM to 4 PM at The Sands in Torquay, this event is not just a gathering, but a movement towards recognizing and uplifting women's voices in sectors often overshadowed.
