Join the Global Movement of Kindness: Celebrating 20 Years of Good Deeds Day
Good Deeds Day (GDD) is set to inspire millions once again this year, marking its 20th anniversary of encouraging people around the globe to engage in acts of kindness. On March 10 in Israel and April 12 worldwide, individuals from 115 countries will come together for a day dedicated to community projects and volunteering opportunities, all under the unifying motto, “United in Good.”
A Legacy of Positivity and Change
The genesis of Good Deeds Day can be traced back two decades ago to Shari Arison, a businesswoman and philanthropist. Inspired by the innate goodness of people, she envisioned a movement that harnesses this benevolence to foster community and social ties. “All of a sudden I had the idea that there’s so many good people in the world,” Arison remarked, laying the foundation for what has become a remarkable global event.
New Initiatives for a Stronger Community
In celebration of its milestone anniversary, this year’s Good Deeds Day will introduce “Good Deeds Trails” across Israel, set up in collaboration with local authorities. These trails aim to illuminate various social and community initiatives, offering residents and visitors the chance to engage in hands-on volunteering experiences.
Uniting Diverse Societies Through Giving
In a remarkable inclusion effort, GDD will coincide with the month of Ramadan within Israel's Arab sector, showcasing various activities that promote cooperation and mutual respect among all communities. Rafi Elul, Chairman of Ruach Tova of the Arison Group, highlighted the initiative's role in uniting diverse groups by emphasizing common goals of giving and shared responsibility.
Numerous Opportunities to Get Involved
Good Deeds Day will focus on various projects aimed at fostering connections within communities, supporting defense forces and their families, and promoting environmental care. Participants can engage in a wide array of activities, including community workshops, nature cleanups, and crafting thank-you baskets for service members. Those interested in making a difference can register on the Good Deeds Day website to choose how they’d like to contribute, whether as individuals or as part of a group.
This annual celebration of altruism not only strengthens social bonds but serves as a reminder that every action, no matter how small, contributes to creating a caring and connected world. As Arison wisely stated, “I think when the circles of good, the circles of love, will grow, we'll see a better world for all of us.”
