Join the Heartwarming Paws on the Promenade Walk for a Good Cause!
On Sunday, 12 April, the beautiful city of Cape Town will host the eighth annual Paws on the Promenade 5 km walk, inviting the community to come together for a noble cause. This event, organized by the Mdzananda Animal Clinic, aims to raise awareness and funds for the countless animals in need within the Khayelitsha community.
A Community Gathering for Animal Welfare
Starting from the iconic Mouille Point Lighthouse, participants can stroll along the scenic route toward the Sea Point pools and back. The event is designed to be inclusive, allowing individuals to walk as far as they wish, or simply enjoy the morning atmosphere. Regardless of whether they own a dog, everyone is encouraged to participate. For those who do not have pets, the opportunity exists to walk one of the clinic’s shelter dogs, fostering a deeper connection between the community and these deserving animals.
Details of the Event
Entry fees are aimed to promote accessibility, costing R50 for adults and dogs, and only R25 for kids under 12. Participants can purchase tickets online or on the day of the event from 8:30 am, with a kick-off at 9:00 am. This year’s walk also promises to offer a festive atmosphere with coffee and food stalls for attendees to enjoy, all while contributing towards the welfare of animals in Khayelitsha.
The Importance of Mdzananda Animal Clinic
The Mdzananda Animal Clinic is a vital resource for Khayelitsha's pet owners, many of whom are unable to afford private veterinary care. This low-cost clinic provides essential services such as vaccinations, sterilisations, and emergency surgeries, supporting both the pets and their families in the area. With around a million residents and approximately 300,000 pets in Khayelitsha, the work done by this clinic is critical.
As the community comes together to walk for a cause, it is an opportunity for every participant to reflect on the importance of animal welfare and the impact of collective action. So grab your leash, lace up your sneakers, and wear something orange to symbolize your support. Together, let’s ensure that every pet in Khayelitsha has a reason to wag their tail!
